A guide to GENERAL PRICING
———————————————————————————————————————————-
INTRODUCTION
You will rarely find commercial photographers publishing their rates and costs. If you did, you would be staggered at the discrepancies you would find!
Being the biggest pastime on earth the industry has been greatly devalued in recent years. Some with a romantic notion for a career sea change are picking up a camera, watching a few YouTube videos and proclaiming they are professionals. Imagine applying that same mindset to a trade like an electrician or plumber…
WE ARE PROFESSIONALS - we have years of experience creating images for a vast amount of clients. This is our trade - our livelihood. That experience, coupled with the high end equipment and technology we use ensures every shoot delivers the highest quality results.
HOW DO WE PRICE OUR SERVICES?
Unless we are quoting a per shot rate, as for multiple product or business portrait photography, we price our services based on the estimated time it takes to complete the job, as most trades do.
When requesting our hourly, half day and full day rates, depending on the nature of the shoot it’s important to realise that comparing rates between photographers doesn’t take into account productivity.
Here’s the bottom line - we’re not the cheapest, nor are we the most expensive. But we always deliver quality.
A Breakdown of Expenses
Pre-production - any time or expenses required to search for a location, prop search, travel time and expenses or call out fee etc - POA
Photographic rate / fee - the fee for our time and expertise which includes any of the standard equipment and lighting required for the shoot. In commercial photography we call this the Base Usage Rate (BUR) - the rates outlined below are presented as ‘ballpark’ or bracket figures as we take into consideration the degree of difficulty, craft and creative input required vary from shoot to shoot.
Hourly rate for shoots less than half a day - $175 - $200 ex GST
Half day rate - approximately 4 - 5 hours - $600 - $750 ex GST
Full day rate - approximately 8 - 10 hours - $1000 - $1300 ex GST
Assistants - We will quote for an assistant if we deem it necessary - POA
Image processing, optimisation & shoot edit - depends on the amount of shots taken - from $60 up to $200+ to edit a few hundred
We edit all the shots taken and eliminate those that are not suitable
We apply a grade to the selections - colour correction, tonal optimisation etc - and convert the RAW images to TIFF files
We then create low resolution JPEG files to supply you as digital ‘proofs’ to make your selections from.
Retouching and supply of finished high resolution images - $120/hour or we will quote you a per image rate
ALL THESE PRICES ARE INDICATIVE - PLEASE CONTACT US FOR A NO OBLIGATION QUOTE

When we provide you with digital files of the finished images, including proofs, you have effectively purchased a licence to use those images for your promotional and advertising applications as you have stated in your brief. Usually this covers the world wide web, all socials and any media advertising within Australia.
• What you don’t own is the right to pass on or on sell them to any third party without the permission of the author •
Unless you request full ownership of the images prior to the shoot and it is agreed between both parties, please contact us if you intend to pass on or resell the images to another party, we generally allow this and will advise you of any fee we require to clear the additional use. As a basic guide, that fee is usually 50% of the original shoot cost.
